Pretty good once you get used to its' quirks..
Ocrtools 2 0 18
I hadn't used an OCR programme for years and needed something basic and cheap to translate some scanned poetry to text. Motorsport manager 1 5. OCRTOOLS did the trick (eventually - read on) and its character recognition is fast and impressively accurate.
However, there is no Help file or other guidance and the interface isn't very intuitive. This is made worse because some of the icons in the GUI don't respond when clicked; you have to use the main menu bar commands (which do work fine). Once the app has recognised text from your scan, there doesn't seem to be any way to export or save these result directly. I had to cut and paste the text into Word.
So eventually, after a bit of fiddling about and recognising some of the apps shortcomings, I got into a fairly rapid workflow. Here it is:
> open OCRTOOLS
> use Finder to double click your scan (which opens it Preview)
> select and Copy the text to clipboard
> load the Clipboard into OCRTOOLS
> copy the recognised text to clipboard
> Paste the text into Word (make a few corrections) and Save.
Simple enough.
If you need to process vast amounts of text, OCRTOOLS probably isn't your best choice. But for my lightweight needs, it is adequate and even considering it's flaws, at the price (£2.99), I would recommend OCRTOOLS.

Cheap and does the job
Ocrtools 2 0 15
I used this successfully on documents that I had photographed to create jpegs. I was suprised how well the ocr worked - not perfect but certainly good enough. I needed to do some editing but it was much better than re-typing.

OCRTOOLS Highly impressed with simplicity. Detectx swift 1 044 – security and troubleshooting tool. Only tried one language (Spanish) which worked very well.
Well worth the money. Word for mac 2008 watermark in front of picture. (Important to note what image files are recognised - not a problem as most popular
image formats included.)
